Local Hike

By Carol at 3:49 am on Thursday, July 10, 2008

This week Larry led twenty-six hikers, on a hike he takes almost daily. We covered about three miles of hilly terrain, on a very hot day.

wood frog

At the top of the “mountain” we met this wood frog (rana sylvatica), nicely camouflaged amongst the leaves of the forest floor.

forest swing

In a forest clearing, we were surprised to find a swing and campfire circle.

rock formations

Ferns dotted these outcroppings along one segment of the trail.

mushrom lesson

Currie explains the characteristics of this red mushroom (Russula sp.), found on the path.
