The hiking group took the winding road up to Skyline Boulevard and across to Russian Ridge, famous for its spring wildflower displays, scenic ponds, and steep trails.

Here is the beginning of the trail we took today at Montebello Open Space.
An oak tree along the way is silhouetted against clear skies.
Our lunch stop overlooks a valley and slopes covered by stands of Douglas fir and redwood trees.
Through the trees we catch a glimpse of Hoover Tower, on the Stanford University Campus.
This native buckeye tree is full of buds ready to open.
At another bend in the trail we can see San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, and Mt. Tamalpais clearly, to the north.
What a great day for a hike - the winds made the visibility almost perfect.
